If your systems go down tomorrow, what's the plan?

One monthly fee covers your computers, network, printers, and cloud services. I keep it all running, backed up, and secure. No hourly billing, no surprises.

Upper Valley, NH / VT

Everything your business needs to stay online.

One monthly fee covers your day-to-day IT. Monitoring, maintenance, support, and security. No hourly billing.

01 24/7 Monitoring

Software watching your network all the time. If something goes wrong, I get an alert, usually before you notice anything.

02 Automated Backups

Every machine backed up nightly. If a laptop gets stolen or something gets deleted, I restore your files. Restores tested quarterly so I know they actually work.

03 Security

Antivirus, DNS filtering, firewall management. Keeps malware and junk off your network.

04 Password Management

One secure place for all your business passwords instead of sticky notes and shared spreadsheets.

05 Patching and Updates

Windows updates, app patches, firmware. I handle it after hours so nothing interrupts your workday.

06 When Things Break

Servers, network gear, printers, line-of-business software. When infrastructure stops working, I diagnose and fix it. Business-critical issues get a response within one hour, including after hours.

07 Network and Vendors

Router, switch, Wi-Fi, printers. If your internet goes down, I call your ISP so you don't sit on hold. Same with software vendors and printer companies.

08 Employee Setup

New hire gets a login, email, and access. Someone leaves, I remove their access the same day.

09 Documentation

Your network, equipment, vendor contacts, and procedures, all documented and stored on your hardware. No more tribal knowledge.

10 Nothing Hidden

Log into the monitoring dashboards whenever you want and look at what I'm looking at. If you'd rather not, I'll tell you what matters in plain English.

Problems I solve every week.

"Our last IT guy set this up and nobody knows how it works."

I document everything. When I'm done, you'll have a complete picture of your infrastructure on your own hardware.

"I don't even know if our backups are working."

I test restores quarterly. Not just "the backup ran," but "I can actually get your data back from it."

"We're paying for software licenses we probably don't need."

I audit what you're actually using and replace what I can with open source tools you own outright.

"When something breaks, we lose days waiting for help."

Business-critical issues get a response within one hour, including after hours. Monitoring runs continuously, so I'm often already working on it before you notice.

"I have no idea what we actually spent on IT last year."

Flat monthly fee, same number every month. Bigger projects get a written estimate before I start. At year-end you can point to one line in your books and see exactly what IT cost.

"I'm afraid to switch providers because they have all our passwords."

Most passwords don't need your current provider's cooperation. I help you reclaim admin access directly through the vendors (domain registrar, Microsoft 365, cloud apps). Local accounts get reset or rebuilt. Within a week you're back in control, and everything goes into a vault you own.

How healthy is your IT?

Click each box you can honestly answer yes to. The verdict at the bottom updates as you go. The ones you can't check are probably worth a conversation.

Simple, honest, no surprises.

Pricing

Flat monthly fee

One price covers everything above. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices. You know what you're paying every month.

Ownership

You own everything

The hardware is yours. Your data stays on your property. Passwords, documentation, backups. I manage it, but it belongs to you.

Agreements

Plain language contracts

No legalese, no fine print tricks. My service agreement is written in plain English so you know exactly what you're getting.

Cost

$50 to $80 per workstation

Per workstation, per month, depending on your setup. A 6-person shop runs about $350/month all in. Month-to-month, no contract. I don't mark up hardware; you pay what I pay.

What I Do
  • Proactive monitoring and maintenance
  • Open source solutions when they fit
  • Document everything I touch
  • Honest advice, even if it means less work for me
  • Remote fixes when possible, on-site when needed
  • Answer after-hours emergencies
What I Don't Do
  • Bill by the hour and profit from your problems
  • Sell you hardware at markup
  • Lock you into multi-year contracts
  • Hold your data hostage

Not included in the monthly fee:

Bigger jobs like replacing a server or setting up new workstations. Hardware costs (computers, printers, parts, supplies). Fixing problems caused by changes someone made without telling me. Cabling or electrical work. For anything outside the monthly fee, you get a written estimate before I start. No markup on hardware; you pay what I pay.

Your IT person.

I'm Kurth Bemis. I've been doing IT for more than 25 years, from factory floors and logistics operations to small-business networks, and I've spent enough time on the phone with vendors to know how the game gets played. Different places, same truth: when the computers work nobody thinks about them, and when they don't, nothing else gets done. My job is to keep you in the first bucket.

These days I work with small businesses right here in the Upper Valley. Anywhere from a 5-person office to a 75-workstation shop. Retail, professional offices, trades, restaurants, the kind of places where IT has to just work because the owner has enough to worry about. When you call, I pick up. Not a dispatcher, not a phone tree, just me.

Your data stays on your hardware, on your property. Passwords, documentation, backups. I manage it, but it belongs to you.

Response times: business-critical systems down, within one hour. Non-urgent infrastructure issues, within four hours.

After hours: emergencies get answered. If your server goes down on a Saturday morning, call me.

What if I'm unavailable? Every client's infrastructure is fully documented. If I'm out, another qualified tech can step in with the documentation already on-site. You're never dependent on what's in one person's head.

If we stop working together, there's nothing to hand over because you already have everything.

Your infrastructure, not someone else's subscription.

Most of the tools I deploy have no per-seat licensing fees. They're professionally maintained open source software, the same technology that runs most of the internet. You own it outright. No vendor can raise your rates, change the terms, or pull the rug out from under you.

Self-hosted, cloud, or both. Passwords in Vaultwarden on your hardware or in Bitwarden cloud. Documentation in BookStack in your office or in Confluence. Files and email wherever they fit your business. Your call, not mine.

That said, I'm a pragmatist, not a zealot. Windows runs your workstations, Microsoft handles your email, and your line-of-business software is what it is. I work with all of it. The goal is the right tool for the job, not ideology.

What that means in practice:

Monitoring Backup Password vault DNS filtering VPN Firewall File sharing Ticketing Documentation

All running on hardware you own, on your network, using software with no per-seat licensing fees.

Your data is yours, and it stays that way.

Security isn't an add-on. It's how I work by default.

Encryption

Encrypted before it leaves the building

Backups are encrypted with AES-256 on your own hardware before they go anywhere offsite. The storage provider sees opaque blobs, not your files. You hold a copy of the passphrase, so you're never locked out of your own data, and you're not dependent on me to get it back.

Access

Keys where it matters

My admin access to your systems and the monitoring backend uses cryptographic keys, not shared passwords. No privileged login to steal, phish, or guess. Day-to-day user passwords still exist; they live in a vault you own, not mine.

No Harvesting

Your data is not a product

Your files, email, and business information never get harvested, sold, or fed to somebody's AI. I don't make money selling what you've trusted me with.

Transparency

You can watch me work

Log into the monitoring dashboards whenever you want and look at what I'm looking at. Nothing is hidden behind a vendor portal you can't access.

What happens after you reach out.

Week 1

Conversation and site visit

I come to your location, look at what you have, and talk through what's working and what isn't. You get an honest assessment and a clear quote. No obligation.

Weeks 2-3

Setup and protection

I install monitoring, backups, and security on every machine. Move your passwords into a secure vault. Document your network. Most of this happens in the background without disrupting your day.

Week 4

Running smoothly

Everything is monitored, backed up, and documented. From here on out, the less you hear from me, the better things are going.

Free assessment of your current setup.

I'll come look at what you have and tell you what I'd change and what's fine as is. No obligation.
